The decision about whether, when and with whom to have a family is one of the most important decisions we make. Tennesseans need access to birth control, so they can make the decisions that are best for themselves and their families.

Birth control gives people the power to have control over their lives and futures. In addition to preventing pregnancy and allowing people to plan their families, some birth control methods also serve a range of other health benefits, including regulating the menstrual cycle, making periods less painful, and more. 

People around the country, including Tennesseans, use and support birth control. The majority of women in the U.S. have used birth control at some point in their reproductive years, and nine in 10 American adults support access to all forms of birth control. 

Extreme politicians are intent on banning access to birth control. Leaked audio from a strategy session with Tennessee legislators confirms plans to restrict and regulate IVF and birth control in the next few years. Our freedom to access birth control is under attack. 

• Earlier this year, Tennessee legislators killed a bill that clarified that Tennesseans can still access birth control while the state’s abortion ban is in effect.¹
• Tennessee just lost more than $7 million in federal Title X funding, which is vital to funding family planning, because of our extreme policies.

It’s clear that certain politicians will continue to try to control our bodies and our lives. The extreme religious views of some people shouldn’t interfere with the freedom of everyone. These are personal health care decisions, and politicians have no business in our bedrooms or our bodies. 

 We must speak up to let legislators know that Tennesseans should have the freedom to make their own decisions about their futures, including decisions about birth control.

 People know what’s best for themselves and their futures, not politicians. Join us as we work toward a Tennessee where everyone has equal access to the information and healthcare, including birth control, that they need to stay healthy and to thrive.
